MY STORY

At the tender age of 13 I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. Since then I have witnessed the horrible affects that diabetes can have a person’s life. As a young child I was always on and off about taking care of my health. Some days I would be right on track other days I would go without taking my meds at all. My mother who had gestational diabetes when giving birth to me never got rid of her diabetes. Recently she had to under go surgery and has a BKA (below the knee amputation) due to an infection in her blood. At the age 18 I was cut off of my medical and for the last 3 years I have not had medical insurance. I use my mother’s insulin whenever I feel myself getting really sick. Other than that I just go without. It is very difficult to be on and off the medication and not on a stable diet plan. I honestly don't remember the last time i seen a Dr. about my illness but with all the illness in my family i.e. obesity, heart trouble, stroke, diabetes, cancer, I have decided that enough is enough. I wise man once told me if I respect my body it will respect me. I am making an honest effort to log my food intake as well as my exercise routine. Good diet and exercise are the keys to a healthy lifestyle. My goal with creating this blog is to help in encourage others as I share my story and accomplishments, also to help me track my progress. I am on the road to a long healthy lifestyle and no devil in hell can stop me.
